I think there’s not only peer pressure for kids but there’s peer pressure among parents. My daughter’s friend had a 15th birthday planned in Manhattan. I live about 22 miles from the city. The parent didn’t give us any plan for the night. All my daughter told me and my wife was that they’re going to walk around Times Square and then go to dinner. I wasn’t ok with that especially after hearing there was a stabbing there and someone drove into a bunch of people crossing the street in the middle of Times Square. We didn’t allow her to go and we were told how strict we were and how every other parent sent their kid, blah, blah. The parents that I spoke to after said they were worried about it and neither should I. Well, I’m happy with my decision and I’d do it again.

Good for you. That other people are allowing something is rarely a good barometer of its soundness.
